2024 Vintage News

The final stretch for the 2024 vintage matches the observations made thus far. It will be a challenging vintage for winemakers, as both the vegetative and ripening periods have been just as delicate, requiring responsiveness, hard work and meticulous attention to detail!

We are, however, back to a later harvest date than in recent vintages, which is a return to the normality of a few years ago. This will make September a busy month with careful monitoring of the weather conditions.

Vineyard Conditions :

Despite an alert in the first half of August, there was no intense heatwave this summer. On average, the harvest began 8 days later than last year.

The drought continued in the southern parts of the region, from the Pyrénées Orientales to the Montagne Noire. Unfortunately, an episode of hail in the Corbières between Fabrezan and Camplong limited yields in this sector. Dry weather and cooler temperatures in the second half of August helped ease the water stress that was starting to show on some Syrah and Roussanne vines.

In early September, a cold drop accompanied by rain appeared in certain areas (in the North of Montpellier and the Gard), which delayed the ripening of the grapes. This is also increasing the phytosanitary pressure in already sensitive areas. Therefore, the AOC terroir will have to be patient for the reds to reach full ripeness.

The first juices back from the cellars showed lower yields than expected.

To Conclude :

Despite lower yields, the aromatic profiles are shaping up to be interesting, with good color work in rosés. However, we must keep a close eye on the fairly low acidity of the first juices, which will require adjustments for the futures cuvées.

Localized storms that occurred between the 5th and 8th of September, coupled with an early drop in temperatures throughout the region, resulted in a break between the whites, rosés, and reds, most of which are still waiting on the vine. If the health conditions hold up well and the wind keeps blowing without rain, the grape should ripen well. The next few days will be crucial.

Nevertheless, the appropriate red profiles have already demonstrated excellent drinkability.
